OpenMRS's self-reported global deployment scale

Sources for the commonly cited "70+ countries / 8,000 facilities / 15.6 million patients" figures, and a caution about their provenance.

OpenMRS’s own site and its listing as a UNDP Digital Public Good both cite deployment figures in the range of 70-plus countries, roughly 8,000 health facilities, and implementer reports of more than 15.6 million patient records managed across 6,500-plus facilities in 40-plus countries. These numbers are widely repeated across OpenMRS community materials and secondary write-ups.

These figures are self-reported. They come from OpenMRS.org and a Digital Public Goods catalog listing that is itself substantially sourced from the project’s own submissions, not from an independent census or third-party audit of live installations. They should be treated as a credible order of magnitude — OpenMRS is unambiguously one of the most widely deployed open-source clinical platforms in the world — rather than as an exact, externally verified count. A funding or procurement decision should not rest on the precision of the specific numbers.
