Bahmni's 2017 governance transition from Thoughtworks to the Bahmni Coalition

Source for Bahmni's origin at Thoughtworks and its 2017 handover to community/nonprofit governance under OpenMRS Inc.

Thoughtworks began building Bahmni in January 2013. In October 2017, Thoughtworks transferred project ownership to the Bahmni Coalition — a group of companies and nonprofits operating under the fiscal sponsorship of OpenMRS Inc. — while continuing as a major code contributor rather than the project’s sole owner. This mirrors OpenMRS’s own governance model: a nonprofit umbrella rather than a single commercial vendor holding the roadmap.
